The lions first match of the season started well with great passing and shooting off Ackers, Weston and Patterson only to be denied by an excellent Chesapeake goalkeeper. Chesapeake’s forwards pressed hard testing Critchlow in goals who made several great saves. The defence back three of Jennings, Plant and Grocott held the opposition off until just before half time. Fresh legs were called for with poor pitch conditions making the passing hard. Making their debut for the Lions was North and Young who both gelled with their new team mates, making great tackles to win the ball and push forward. Constable and Pegg came on putting more and more pressure on the Chesapeake defence and testing the goalkeeper to the limits. Hopes were raised when Ackers was brought down in the box, with a penalty awarded only for the goalkeeper to make another excellent save. Come full time the result was not a fair reflection on how well the team performed!
