Aztecs U13 Juniors travelled to Chaddesden Park on Sunday to play Spondon Prims Gold in fine autumn conditions. Kicking off with the wind slightly helping the Ashbourne team needed to get off to a good early start which went horribly wrong after 5 minutes with Spondon taking the lead. Within 5 minutes Aztecs hit back with Joe Stelfox slotting home after fine movement from Bailey Smith and Mason Hoult. A free kick from Spondon then crept through to the back post and their number 7 gave Jamie Longyear in goal no chance to leave it 2-1. Aztecs then had a great 15 minute burst with Dejvid Sidders shaving the post, good runs from Sam Wright, Otto Wigley and Alejandro Garcia-Quintero nearly lead to the equaliser which finally came when Harry Moore found Sidders who crossed to Lucas Shirtcliffe who headed home for 2-2 at half time. The second half was end to end, the Aztecs defence of Oliver Love, Declan Walwyn, Matty Gillis & Luca Baird all having to dig in. On the counter attack Aztecs scored two quick goals from Joe Stelfox who secured his hat-trick which was deserved after a great shift. Then an unfortunate own goal saw the score 3-4 and a penalty was awarded to Spondon with 5 minutes left which was put over the bar before Josh Menaj raced away and slotted home a great goal to seal the game 3-5 to Aztecs.
