A trip to Derby for the opening league game of the season at the Arboretum Park saw the Aztecs come up against Chesapeake in Division One of the City League. The first 10 minutes started well for Aztecs with Josh Menaj, Harry Moore & Mason Hoult enjoying some decent possession and Sam Wright holding the ball up well in the longer than normal grass. However within the blink of an eye two shots brought two goals for Chesapeake who took a 2-0 lead. A wake up call and a couple of substitutes enforced, the Aztecs grabbed a goal back from Joe Stelfox with a fine right foot shot, half time 2-1. The second half saw Lucas Shirtcliffe find the net to bring the game level but immediately Chesapeake were awarded a penalty from a corner which was fired home and the took the lead again, 3-2. Bailey Smith had a terrific game on the wing providing vital energy and from him winning a corner, Oliver Love slotted home to make it 3-3 with 15 minutes to go. Matty Gillis, Declan Walwyn & Luca Baird held firm at the back with some great distribution from Jamie Longyear in goal. This period was excellent where the Aztecs played some delightful football and took the lead from another goal by Shirtcliffe from another corner. Otto Wigley then found Menaj who slotted a great pass to Dejvid Sidders who curled home a beautiful goal to seal the match. Lucas Shirtcliffe then wrapped the game up and his hat-trick with the final goal, full time 3-6.
