The U15 Aztecs earned a fine point from their visit to table-topping Hatton in a pulsating encounter in the mud.
The hosts went into the game with a 100% record but Aztecs tore into them, not allowing them to settle, and soon started creating chances. Logan Cuthbert hit the post from a corner, but when a second chance presented itself to him he made no mistake, finishing cleverly from a Kyle Clowes free kick.
The lead was no more than Aztecs deserved based on their early play, but Hatton are a good team and worked their way into the game, levelling just before half time.
The second half was a proper battle, as both sides gave it everything, Freddie Murphy was denied by a fine save after superb link up play with Sammy-Lee Foster, and was also denied what looked a very strong penalty claim, at the other end Fraser Cooper made a couple of great saves, and bravely commanded his area.
The defence in particular deserve great credit, they defended intelligently and with great determination, in the end a hard fought 1-1 draw was probably fair, though Aztecs will be eyeing all 3 points in the reverse fixture in a few weeks.
