The U15 Aztecs avenged their penalty shootout defeat in last year’s cup semi final with a thrilling victory away to Stapenhill Swans.
Aztecs started brightly, and Freddie Murphy was on target to give them an early lead after three minutes. They kept the pressure on and deservedly increased the lead, first from a neat Toby Carolan finish, then a firm drive from Kyle Clowes after good work by Carolan and Luke Ford.
The dominance continued after the break, but chances to increase the lead further were spurned, and the warning bells started ringing when Stapenhill clawed one back with 10 minutes remaining.
In injury time the Aztecs then rather naively found themselves out-numbered during a Swans counter attack, and at 3-2 the hosts glimpsed a famous comeback, but the Aztecs held on for a deserved victory.
